It’s no secret that Home Town's Erin and Ben Napier love a picture-perfect first impression: Erin’s just-so portraits of the Laurel, Mississippi, homes she and her husband transform are now so iconic they’ve become a coloring book. Case in point: These before-and-after pairings. From clever color tweaks and landscaping glow-ups to jaw-dropping “is that the same property?!” transformations, Erin and Ben's exterior-transformation tricks boast ideas for every budget.

The Crosby House: Before

The quaint little house in a Cape Cod style was in good shape structurally, but the plain brick exterior and dated ironwork left it lacking in visual flair.

The Crosby House: After

Ben and Erin gave the exterior a substantial facelift with a shingle roof in dark green that provides a colorful contrast to the ivory-white of the brick. "There's just nothing that looks more crisp and fresh than a green-and-white cottage," said Erin. Other new exterior enhancements include a wood accent above the entrance and a carefully selected shade of yellow for the front door that integrates nicely with the creamy white of the brick.

The Parker House: Before

It’s time for neglected landscaping and an extraneous ramp to take their leave. This sweet little house needed color and curation to thrive in its next phase of life.

The Parker House: After

Ben created a bold new gable that crowns the roof like a piece of statement jewelry and matches the cheery hue of the fresh French doors. Erin added a sweet teal café set to the reimagined porch with a classic “haint blue” ceiling. Loungers invite guests to stay a while. Well-manicured trees, shrubs and container plants make the home feel lively rather than shaggy.

The Suleiman House: Before

With a patchy front yard, too-heavy shutters and a washed-out, gray-on-gray color scheme, this bungalow fell short of a warm welcome.

The Suleiman House: After

Hello, sunshine! Creamy yellow paint for the siding and a complementary tone for the skirting contrasts beautifully with a seafoam front door that’s no longer suffocating behind a screen. Now, this home is the neighborhood charmer it always should've been. Container plants, wicker chairs and textural landscaping complete the new look.

The Steinwinder House: Before

Muffled behind disproportionate landscaping and attention-gobbling columns, this bungalow’s porch area was almost nonexistent.

The Steinwinder House: After

This makeunder is an excellent example of how less can be more. Beds of much smaller, porch-skimming plants now carry the eye up to a sweet sitting area (complete with a porch swing). A coat of black paint brings out the iron columns’ delicate details without letting them overshadow the home's other architectural features.

A traditional color palete wasn't doing much for this home's quaint charm, cute dormers and all.

Ben and Erin graced the home with a vibrant blue-green paint upgrade, new shutters, fresh landscaping and a novel makeover of the carport to create outdoor living space.

Details that should feel classic and generous here — like a lovely pediment above the front door and ample windows — were instead rather dreary, thanks to a too-traditional palette that creates strong contrasts without adding interest.

The Sims House: After

This more muted and neutral approach to highlighting architecture — new white exterior paint darkens to a serene putty tone around the door, then darkens again to a rich olive-brown on the door itself — is graceful and contemporary. That putty color recurs on the now-shutterless windows, and new landscaping (plus elegant, sculptural topiary flanking the door) offers a colorful new frame for the front walkway.

The Donnelly House: Before

Flaking, gloomy paint wasn't doing this home any favors. Meanwhile, the spectacular wraparound porch that should be an exclamation point was more of an indifferent shrug.
