David Bromstad Knows About More Than Home Decor—These Outfits Prove It

His design talents extend to his incredible personal style.

We all know and love David Bromstad for his role in My Lottery Dream Home. And some—who have been watching HGTV for over a decade—may remember him from Color Splash, the show—which he launched after winning Design Star—that aired from 2007 to 2012 and focused on color’s ability to fully revitalize a space.

When you look at David’s full range of design, as well as the shows he’s hosted and been involved in, a few things are clear: He has a terrific eye for color, a knack for embracing dramatic decor, and a preference for standout patterns and designs. While all of these things pertain to his home design style, when we took a closer look, we realized that they play into his wardrobe, too.

With that in mind, ahead, discover seven of our favorite David Bromstad outfits—all of which prove that his eye for style extends beyond the home.

Bold Cobalt Velour

In case you missed it, velour is alive and well in 2021—and David isn’t one to shy away from a fun, flashy fabric. Here, he paired a bright cobalt blue button-up shacket (as in, shirt-jacket—another major trend of 2021) over a black- and white-striped turtleneck, which together exude a casual Hollywood Regency vibe in fashion form.

Modern Pink Velour Tracksuit

Speaking of velour, here, David is seen rocking a head-to-toe number that can’t be ignored. Rather than sticking to a traditional velour tracksuit hoodie or zip-up, the 47-year-old designer opted, again, for a shacket, only this time paired with matching joggers and Nike Air Force 1s.

Full ‘Fit Patterns

There are monochrome outfits and then there are full ‘fit patterns. While both styles capitalize on the idea of keeping it simple with one primary theme, opting for patterns takes it to an undoubtedly bolder level—and no one does it better than David. Plus, the notched collar and cuffed sleeves? Très chic. (Also, fun fact: Pineapples are a symbol of welcome, and David might just be one of the most welcoming hosts.)

Classic Pinstripes

Even David’s PJs show he has style. The red-white-and-blue pinstripe button-up pairs perfectly with his tattoos, no?

Pattern Mixing

Pattern mixing has been a major trend over the past few years but it’s not always easy to do. David, naturally, has no problem, though. Plaid pants and a spotted fur coat might not have seemed like a match made in heaven but here he proves otherwise.

Fur and Tie-Dye

As high fashion has given way to loungewear over the past year—due to a need for comfort in this truly unprecedented time—tie-dye became a big hit. And, who better to stand as the poster boy for the rainbow-inspired trend than the King of Color himself?

Textural Fun

While we could go on for days, let’s wrap it up with this last look. Red, black and gold create an old-Hollywood vibe that we can’t take our eyes off of. As gorgeous as the color palette is alone, David took it up a notch by pairing his two-texture blazer with a patterned silk scarf, creating a multi-layered, textured appeal that looks positively regal.
